Strengthening Math Skills at
the Postsecondary Level: In October 2003, the
Department of Education awarded a contract to the CNA
Corporation and its partners to review the lessons learned
from community colleges, the military, business, and
organized labor whose common goal has been to strengthen
the mathematics skills of their students, members, or
employees. The project will identify and document a range
of promising programs, approaches, and instructional
practices that enable students to strengthen their math
skills and progress to higher-level math courses and into
work assignments requiring higher-level math abilities.
